The Institute of Historical Research of the National Hellenic Research Foundation (IHR, NHRF) and the Orthodox Academy of Crete (OAC), in collaboration with the Department of History and Philosophy of Science of the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens (HPS, UoA), are pleased to announce the organization of the 2022 International Summer School on Science and Religion on the island of Crete, Greece.
The one-week intensive summer school aims to provide participants with knowledge of the history of the relations between Christianity and Science as well as with an in-depth knowledge of the relations between Orthodox Christianity and Science. It is addressed to undergraduate and postgraduate students, Ph.D. candidates, and researchers in the field of Religion, Science, History, Philosophy, Technology, Didactics, Theology, as well as to those interested in the interconnection between religion and science.
The Summer School will be held from 13 to 18 June 2022. The instructors are researchers from the IHR, HNRF, and other prestigious research and educational institutions of Greece, as well as the renowned professors Peter Harrison (University of Queensland, Australia; University of Oxford, United Kingdom) and Jaume Navarro (University of the Basque Country, Spain). All have extensive experience in the study of Science and Religion.
The IHR, NHRF is implementing the international project SOW - Science & Orthodoxy around the World since 2016, funded by the Templeton World Charity Foundation, Inc.
The lectures and workshops, as well as accommodation, will take place on the premises of the Orthodox Academy of Crete at Kolymvari, Crete where the Holy and Great Synod of the Orthodox Church took place in 2016. The courses will be taught in English and will be offered to a limited number of applicants who will be selected by the summer-school scientific committee.
All participants will receive a certificate of participation.

Application Procedure The school is open to undergraduate and postgraduate students and Ph.D. candidates as well as researchers in the field of Religion, Science, History, Philosophy, Technology, Didactics, Theology, particularly those with a research interest in the interconnection between religion and science. The course will be offered to a limited number of applicants who will be selected by the Scientific Committee following a thorough assessment of the application and the CV of the applicants. The final deadline for applying is NEW DEADLINE: April 30, 2022
Candidates are invited to submit the online application form. Applicants will be informed of the selection results by e-mail no later than May 6, 2022. Along with the confirmation, successful applicants will receive further information for the completion of registration. Upon acceptance, fees are required to be paid until May 20, 2022. Any cancellations made after May 20, 2022, will not be refunded.
